So why are we so quick to throw Food out our Commentator Blair Horner , Executive Director of the New York Public Interest Research Group .
You know you’re of growing poverty , homelessness and hunger. It’s amazing how little attention . The problem of Food waste gets from Policy Makers , according to a 20-16 report roughly half of all produce in the United States is thrown away some 16 million tons worth of produce annually and ML constituting one 3rd of all foodstuffs wasted Food is also the biggest occupant in American landfills , according to the US Environmental Protection Agency . What causes this . A major reason is that Food is cheap in the US . In addition , the concern over the appearance of Food also drives waste fruits and vegetables for example have attended more easily bruiser does color then is a big no no for American shoppers .
Thus esthetically unappealing foods and yanked off supermarket shelves and sent to landfills.
This Food losses included in the cost of Food that is and it’s estimated to cost an average American family. An additional 1600 bucks annually .
Food experts say there’s a growing awareness to governments cannot effectively fight hunger or climate change without reducing Food waste for example Food waste accounts for about 8% of global climate pollution more than India or Russia within the US discarded Food is the single biggest occupant of landfills and incinerators , according to the EPA Food dumps are rising source of methane a far more powerful greenhouse gas than carbon they expect policymakers admit that there only beginning to come to grips with the scale of the problem.
But that growing problem may start to change a recent documentary wasted the story of Food waste was released by well-known chefs Anthony boarding and Danny Bowen and presents statistics about American Food waste crisis examples of policy changes around the world opportunities and systems from schools to grocery stores and the stories from other notable chefs such as Dan Barber and Mario bitterly Ali , the film examines the growing attention. The issue of Food waste is having on Policy Makers , and other countries , for example , recently France became the first nation in the world to ban supermarkets from wasting Food in that country large grocery stores must now donate unsold Food to charities , a move that will result in millions more meals for France’s needy the law came on the heels of a grassroots movement by shoppers that aims to expand versions of France’s law to all of the European Union .
Previously , French supermarkets could trash still edible Food before it even reached a best before or sell by dates supermarkets will also be banned from intentionally destroying discarded Food there have been reports that some French supermarkets a dump bleach on throwaway Food to prevent others from eating it. The reason towards reportedly said was to prevent Food poisoning .
Other store secured trash bins to prevent people from taking edible Food from an increasingly popular practice among France’s unemployed homeless and poor now all supermarkets over 4300ft² in size must hold contracts with not for profits or Food banks , in turn , those charities must collect , stock and properly we distribute the would-be wasted Food adding responsibilities require more volunteers and more storage space beyond France the nation of Italy passed a law to reduce Food waste as well. Japan is adopted aggressive measures to curb the wasting of Food in South Korea charges residence fees by volume for their Food waste , which is separated like recyclables New York both the state and city , which prides itself on environmental sensibilities and which is home to some of the greatest restaurants in the world has taken steps toward attacking this problem a comprehensive embrace of the growing global movement to curb Food waste could dramatically strengthen those efforts .
Done correctly , it could help feed the hungry curb greenhouse gas emissions and save consumers some money a win win win.

Powerful people who abused subordinates may be hurting themselves as well. I’m Dr. Lynn Pascoe rela president . The Association of American colleges and universities and today on the Academic minute Trevor folk assistant professor in the School of Business Athena of Maryland examines whether the abuse affects both parties .
We’re all familiar with the phrase power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely in business culture popular culture and you know our everyday lives. It’s easy to recall incidents of someone on a power trip letting power go to their head and causing them to treat others poorly well conventional understanding of this phenomenon the targets of this ill treatment suffer this may not actually tell the whole story . In fact , recent research suggests that the powerful abuser may suffer as a result of his or her bad behavior . In a study of 116 professional and managerial employees across various organizations , we found that as expected feeling powerful motivated participants to engage in abusive behavior . We also found that power cars , the powerful to feel that others were treating them with more incivility . This is likely because feeling powerful changes the expectations have for how others will treat them . In other words , they expect to be treated better with more respect higher regard etc . We also found that these abusive behaviors and perceptions of instability caused employees to suffer at home in the evening manifested as reduced e fulfillment relaxation . In other words , power cuts employees have more negative interactions with others during the workday and these negative interactions harm these employees wellbeing when they went home . These findings are noteworthy for several reasons , first , they suggested , abuse of power holders aren’t immune from the consequences of their own bad behavior . This suggests that power may not be as universally positive for power holders as we traditionally belief second to change the way we think about victims of negative workplace behaviors we all understand the targets abusive behavior suffered , but these findings suggest that the perpetrator suffer as well . Flipping the script and how we conceptualize the victims of bad behavior at work .
