To tell them turning your guns. Okay then gun you’ve got 5 more in the closet . Yeah , I mean it’s just , it’s just , I don’t . This is just allowed it . I feel good law basically .
Jason Hammers pushed back a little bit. She’s ahead of the one of the issues . One of the big gun lobbyists in Tallahassee . She says that in the state attorney Hillsborough County pushes that he better make sure that he’s not violating any state law .
Sure. So I think there are 2 points to make here , one you have to applaud applaud the state attorney for doing this in the first place no matter what , even if it can’t be completely enforced . It’s a step in the right direction . Number 2 , what Mary hammers referring to is , there’s actually something in statute that says if you make any law regarding gun regulation . The state has a preemption . And if you do anything with that we can fine you $5,000 and remove you from office , that’s actually what she’s referring to , but I think still , I think this is in his purview . To do that and it’s a step in the right direction .
George. What do you say to them again . How do you , how much work our police have to do it . Yeah , I believe it’s already against the law . So do you want them to come in and then do you run into a problem with the Constitution and the right to bear arms . You know , can you restrict out in this particular case , and it probably will end up being challenged by the court . Yeah , if you talk push it too far .
The kit Katie domestic violence is one of the big drivers of murders in this country and if we could do something about it that would undoubtedly cut the number of murders you think that Andrew , on the right track.
Well I don’t I don’t really have a position on it , but I think like you said , it’s going to be interesting to have to watch play on the court. So I mean Marion Hammer is being a little subtle . I think that you know she saying , as you said , this is something that we’re gonna be watching very closely and you know she’s the former NRA Florida lobbyist you know she’s she knows what will happen just got some Bulgari thought speaking certainly on the other side , if you’re , if you the attorney who want to be able to protect people who are under threat . And you know you , you might have a feeling that you know where something could go and that would be your worst scenario if you try to do nothing . So I see I guess , I see what he’s trying to do here , but it’s gonna have to , we’re going to watch how plays out .
You know the one more thing really quickly too so I worked with Senator Moussaoui we had first gun restrictions since 1987 we outlawed backyard underage backyard oranges. I think in the first time we try to do it . It didn’t work . People said , well , this wasn’t gonna do anything it’s not gonna pass and we actually rallied with some different coalitions were able to get through and I think that today has saved lives . So I think you know , today we might say well , we don’t know if it’s gonna save lives were not sure what should we be doing everything we can to at least try to do the right thing and I think that’s what he’s trying to do .
Right , well , what’s the best way to deal with car theft. The epidemic that’s hitting the Tampa Bay area .
Well , St Petersburg State Representative Wingate Newton , filed a bill this week that would make it a second degree misdemeanor to leave your car running and unattended or if you leave the keys in an unlocked car and the car is stolen. You could be charged with a crime . The proposed law requires that you take the key with you unlock the car doors Newton compares it to leaving an unlocked gun around a minor saying you wouldn’t do that . There are some exceptions to the proposed law . If you lock your keys in the car , you wouldn’t be liable if the cars stolen because the Juvenal would have to break in and the law would only apply if Juvenal steal your car if an adult steals it you wouldn’t be charged punishment would be a fine of up to $500 and up to 60 days in jail . Newton wants the bill to be considered when the state legislature meets next month .
George , let me start with a question in Upper Pinellas were clear water is , is there a problem with car theft is there an epidemic. And is this the right approach to that epidemic .
There is an epidemic that only in Upper panels but throughout Pinellas County in really in other parts of the state is well in Pine elicit seems like the juvenile problem is is worse than it is in other parts of the state. So is Joe . It said earlier , this is another one of those feel good , you know , ideas and I commend know represented Newton for suggesting it for at least trying to do something , but the police have said . Whether it . It’s the same people ace our police chief in Clearwater and in even the sheriff has said that it’s not gonna be able to be enforced . They really what we need to do is remind remind remind people that they shouldn’t do stupid things like leaving their car running are leaving their keys in their car . You’re not gonna go around in check up a door to your house is that could be the next step that you’d have to lock your you know your door to your home so I I think education in this particular case would be much more easier path for us to follow and then look at other ways to to address the crime issue to take care of those juveniles to instruct them and to help them understand that they’ve just ruined her life .
What do you think you , yeah , I wish there was unwell. You can actually make parents you know Carrara children . I mean when I was coming up . You have to be home by the street my street out if you didn’t pairs would come up come around looking for you , have you Sanjay down and said the venom up Gen Y , which you know if you would know , so that’s , that’s where we need to Starwood parents .
But , but in terms of legislation , you. I wonder what what can be done legislatively , if this is maybe you know victimizing people twice because their cars stolen and they get charged of the crime . Legislatively , is there anything else or does it is the goat does it simply go back to parenting and and can you put that genie back in the bottle . I mean this is been a trend over the last 30 or 40 years kids reward .
But do we really want our police you know going around checking cars to see if there unlocked you know or would would rather have them be doing there you know investigations. Okay .
Well , before we go , what other news story. Should we be paying attention to Joe . Let’s start with , you got the big story .
Okay. It is tax bill has been debated in Washington DC . You know the people made what effect is gonna have one as locally . There’s one one piece in the House . But Steve Punt point no of the Times pointed out that , do you know the tax-free bonds , you know , for on stadium you know his took no no more , yeah , I mean it’s just been a good for local government . But there were federal government is losing out on Monday , but that , so that’s going to be eliminated . And this is now sound , where are we with it was a rare Republican from Oklahoma this is mostly from states where people don’t have professional teams they’re tired of supporting these big city big mental probably area teams and so that’s under to look for . So I don’t know , but that could affect a new bar .
Party like the idea of eliminating that that tax break , yes. Okay , all right . By Jesse L big story .
So this week , the FCC voted 3-2 to end net neutrality. So if you don’t know when that neutrality is basically right now the internet service providers charge you a certain amount of money you get access to internet you go on whatever you want . Well now that we have ended , net neutrality , they can charge you different amounts for different things you wanna watch CNN tonight will , that’s a $9 a month fee , you wanna use Facebook , that’s another $15 a month . So we’re , we’re stifling innovation were stifling the free market and we’re not just hurting I’m the Democrats were not hurting Republicans warning all Americans by ending net neutrality . So it’s something to look at next step . We’re gonna see it in in the courts a couple attorney generals have sued FCC , we’ll see what that were there goes but we will pray to maintain net neutrality .
Our attorney General Pam Bondi has not joined that lawsuit and she should. All right . Georgia . The big story .
Couple things that come to my mind is one we’re approaching the holiday season and Christmas in the New Year. What is the president’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel . What will that have in the negotiations , in the Middle East . And then secondly , when the legislature reconvenes . I wonder if there truly good elect cities do the work , like we were like , we’re entitled to do .
Because the last few years. They’ve been taking away more than okay controlling . Yeah , all right . And Katie . You know the big story .
And it was speaking at Tallahassee this Sunday in France in the Tampa Bay Times. We have a look at Richard CORCORAN the House speaker he basked special interests all along , but we’ve found out that he’s been taking their money he’s been it’s part of the fund-raising process he says that he’s been on taking private flights and enjoying wine tours enjoying cigar and it’s a really comprehensive look at something that will have been turned over . If not for the Tampa Bay Times report .
And CORCORAN wanting to run forgotten. We’ll see what they don’t were great show thanks for watching Florida this week . Your comments are always welcome please write us at Ft W W edu.org .
