This is really a vast and making Chakrabarti in.
Parallel universes. That’s where Republicans and Democrats are right now in Washington . They’re in parallel universes regarding who’s responsible for bringing the government to the brink of a shutdown just listen .
It makes no sense for Democrats to try and bring us to a shutdown to try and cut off chip funding for the states that are running out of money like Minnesota in Washington and in Kentucky and other states what leads to problems in this place what leads to a government shutdown. One side deciding everything and then saying to the other side you must go along .
Well that was Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer , you just heard , and House Speaker Paul Ryan a little earlier today after a congressional Republicans released a temporary spending bill yesterday that could keep the government running through mid-February. The catch . There’s no plan to preserve that’s been a major sticking point for Democrats . But the biggest threat could come from the GOP’s own freedom carcass the roughly 30 conservative hardliners they could vote no on the continuing resolution because they don’t think it contains sufficient spending for the military . So let’s get the view from Congresswoman Nikki song as she represents Massachusetts 3rd District and she joins us from Washington congresswoman songs . Welcome back to the show .
Thank you. Make the good to be with you .
I you know I was gonna save a certain question for later but I’m gonna ask you right now you’re gonna be retiring soon. Are you glad to be leaving all this .
You know. No , I’m not , it was a dispute over this . My decision to to not seek re-election had much less to do about the many challenges we have here in Washington and much more to do about a whole host of other things that I felt you know merited my attention so I I’m grateful that in my just I knew in my decision not to run again , there would be a great candidate I’m grateful that in my district . We now have 13 Democrat seeking the nomination . They’re all very able , and one of them will be the eventual nominee , and I’ll do everything I can to help elect their person I know that they will represent here and why .
While they they’re getting a glimpse of what they might be getting themselves into now okay , so.
Elected for good times and better. Yeah , that’s clearly a case and and so you know we can’t wish for for easier times when that’s not what the cards are dealing .
I suppose we as the constituents wish for more functional times but Congress.
