Well , that , that obviously these massacres are becoming more frequent and more deadly and they’re becoming more deadly because of the high capacity weapons that are allowed to be sold to people with mental illness and people that are on terrorists’ fly well what fly watches and even though the vast majority of Americans. You know Democrats Republicans want background checks . They don’t think people with mental illness should be able to buy guns . They don’t think people should be on terrorist watch lists and be able to buy guns . You know , is it is .
We’re getting to cruise book this gun legally it’s likely not credibly troubled history in recent years he bought this done Leona.
The mayor said that he was getting treatment at a mental health clinic he hadn’t been back to that clinic but what all these children at the school , the teenage were there , they all seem to know that that was kind of like the big to kind of awful joke the families. I’m sorry start killing people it was gonna be this 19-year-old that he posted on Instagram the that the of the frog whatever it was that he tortured the animals he killed he bragged about wanting to be a professional school shooter so .
And that was reported to the FBI and the FBI spoke to the it was yeah it and he still was greeted by a gun and we are.
So that , according to some other students there that the other common denominator allow these shooters who abuses girlfriend , you know you saw in Orlando. You thought that Pete none that beat up their girlfriends reviews their girlfriends often wind up it’s like almost like a direct line to be coming in some instances , a matter so I’m nothing more to add a that because it doesn’t seem like as somebody said this morning children America lose their lives so Congressman don’t lose their seats .
You know one less thing I’d like to add to this. Before we get to your calls , we talk a lot about the courage of teachers in these situations , who absolutely back to their kids pretend they’re not scared out of their minds shepherd them in the closets . And I think the not line attacking children here is Melissa fell cascade assume you’ve all heard this interview a red it’s from CNN . She was a teacher is a teacher Marjorie stone Douglas High School . Listen carefully to what she had to say .
We did everything that we were supposed to do. High School has prepared us for the situation and still you know that so many casualties . You know it’s very early spring . It’s very emotional because I’ve I feel today like our you know our government , our country has failed us and failed our kids and didn’t keep us safe . Our government .
And our country has failed us and failed our kids and didn’t keep us safe. So when public officials like that is that this press conference of Broward County that is still going on . Governor , the Attorney General Pam Bondi you’ve got into with Anderson Cooper after the Orlando the Pulse Club .
Farhadi who is going to take out a lawsuit against the Trump University , which of course targeted pay $25 million because of the fraud that went on there that university why didn’t shoot because he contributed lots of money were campaign.
Yeah and so if you know praise the teachers as almost everybody does and all sides of this debate. You should listen to what she did , said our government , our country failed us and fill our kids and did not keep us safe . One of the other moments before we get your calls if you miss the press Congress to start about 15 minutes ago still continuing with Broward County officials . The Governor , the attorney general , the superintendent of the school system there standing about an inch away from Governor Scott , yeah , we talk about he why sensible .
Gun control that if we can’t do it. Let’s hope are children do because it’s , and you know , half of those that we’re going to do to email a lifetime of cars that we always do about people talking about the second minute , this is nothing to do with the Second Amendment . This has to do with sensible restrictions on killing machines these ar 15 or 16 wherever they actually are . And these high capacity magazines enabled you to gun down dozens of people who we just had this whilst Vegas you know with with .
One state is by a band bump stocks. You know what , it is Massachusetts ones .
That’s right you that’s right now which is this has been , so this doesn’t do the second. This isn’t to do with you , you’ll be able to protect yourself in your home , it is to do with these killing machines and and even though there are thousands of them all out there , doesn’t mean you can’t start trying to basically say this is a horrible thing , there’s no defense for .
It’s a , if you call today and we hope you do we take calls in order and defend the rate of aid Nicolas Cruz. They have the weaponry . He did the only argument if we ever heard an argument that was anything beyond ridiculous about high capacity magazines , what is , what is the no gun control is the only gun control people say about , high capacity magazines won’t . What is that .
This is what this arguably get all the time. This is a slippery slope . So you’re gonna be high capacity magazines , to which I think it should be today to tomorrow . It’s going to be our semiautomatic iMac weapons which I , but it should be , too . They’re worried about the slippery slope cover and that that the government , and that they have to do is the most ridiculous argument of all is that we have to protect ourselves from the federal government as if you with how you no matter how do you know if you do , you have ordinary bazooka you’re just not going to win against the army . The Marines , the ATF and on the people , the federal government gonna beat . So that’s a ridiculous argument .
8-7 7-3 zero 1-8-9 7 again we’re gonna take your calls until the president speaks , I’m assuming that’s gonna be seconds after the sheriff of brother Broward County stop speaking you still is and we will bring that to you live in the interim , we will take your calls Simona in Sudbury on Boston Public Radio. Welcome .
Hello. I I’d like to say hi . I’d like to say in support of state legislation such as we have in Massachusetts . Obviously , the US Congress is not going to do anything they they haven’t in the past , and they’re not going to do anything this this time but state legislatures have very differing sort of legislation with respect to gun control and the states that have strict gun control laws clearly have much lower rates of deaths from gun from gun . Well , I would say is that as individual citizens . What we can do to encourage states with bad and lax gun control laws to improve them .
We’ll works but.
Some long were allowing our lives near but the , let me just , it’s funny because our apologies a horrible connection thanks for starting us down that road , there were have the Governor of violent with us in the studio 12 o’clock a Simone is exactly right. The number one state lowest state with fatal with gun deaths is Massachusetts , number 4 is Rhode Island . What are they have in common amongst the toughest gun laws in the country . Lowest gun ownership , lowest gun fatalities . So there is a connection . Poland Braintree next on Boston Public Radio . Welcome .
Mark , thank you Jim writer but different different take. I think we have to look at these massive schools they are just too inviting . I think there were 4,000 people in this whole school district . I think it’s a combined School District . It is just too inviting . I know it’s you know the closing the barn door after and there’s probably an economic thing that they built one large village but it’s you know it’s uncontrollable you get if you have a social dynamic within that there may not be able to be control because of its size and I think that the educational forces really need to look to see whether they would have to downsize these these monstrous .
Yeah , Paul , you’re really thoughtful person. We’ve done here for a long time . Do you appreciate the irony is not the right word the perversity that you were talking about shrinking the size of schools and I assume the only reason you’re talking about it is because the men and women we elect to represent us in Washington aren’t doing the more obvious thing . In which case we wouldn’t have to reduce the size of schools that not a fantastically .
Absolutely true but I think when when when when terror started attacking planes in the entire what do they do they reinforce right I was right but they couldn’t get in a basic measure. And I think we we until these damn politicians get off their best intentions . I won’t stoop to the level they were and do something . I think that’s unlikely . And I think can parents need to look to , they can protect their children in , you know that means until at the , you know , the superintendent , I’m looking at him now . He’s one of the bravest people I’ve seen in this whole thing spinning that’s great Governor and enjoyed knowing what he could do .
Thanks. So well , we appreciate and a lot of fact that he said that right next to cover those that’s Rick Scott who said state is sinking and we’re at Miami’s flooding all the time who doesn’t wanna have any mention of climate can change .
I January’s not conniving offshore drilling.
Yeah. Is not got himself the idea where is not gonna have any any are sure after JonBenet’s also , you know we we elect these congress people area voters are single issue voters . I mean that is .
Well , conservatives are much more single issue voters than liberals are. But , but as you said , I think earlier , a lot of these gun control issues are not liberal conservative issues . You know , I think you mentioned only that 90% of the Public Citizen Kane Sagrada you the members of the NRA above 80% support .
I’m so there are stuck paying dues to the NRA.
