W J digital streaming is brought to you by listeners like you. If you get value added W JC digital streaming , would you consider giving some value back good w JC.org/support to become a sustaining member .
I’m from staff saying you are the one and that was very close proximity.
Because you have an interview with the governor him.
So that I give to me would be by definitely her conversations with folk and I’m just asking in those conversations. You know their thoughts of the type of leadership that I’ve brought to the table . Would it be something that they saw would be beneficial for the district from from an administrative side point I’d already had the support from the from many of my my close friends in in the district residents in industry .
I think so. One of the big controversy about your appointment was know not fact that you’re Republican but the 2 Republican who did not original 11 industry the question around there . The lawsuit was that you didn’t originally live there you didn’t live there at the time of your appointment when we when we , when you’re talking about that too to your constituents also can’t help . How do you explain that you so you do you feel that you were living in a district where did you move specifically for the appointment .
So that that is probably the easiest question that I respond to from constituents because they’re their question is this , do you live here in the district in my response is absolutely and they said , then we’re fine. Let’s move forward . How can we work to keep this district Khadr because there been a lapse several weeks went without any representation . Rep . In that district and so the fact that they have someone who’s shown up every day . I’ve gone to homes . I’ve gone and senior issues they become real to me and I have offered real solutions for some real problem .
Do you feel comfortable that that throughout a desperate you know it was especially those who are Democratic residential feel like this opportunity may have been hijacked for them to you feel comfortable that that answer represents satisfaction to the representation of the district. In other words , if you moved to the district just to become a council member . Is it right for you to do that .
In a not quite sure I’ve heard that line of questioning from the residents of the district , but I know the response they’ve heard for me is , and when he asked what qualifies you why it all starts with a love of God I tell them and I shared my story my story. It was never really shared from the very beginning , son of a Baptist preacher . So , my mother was a for 30 plus years , my brother started preaching at the age of 12 or debt ordained 15 as a bishop in South Carolina serving is all I’ve ever known as a part of my DNA when I completed my professional baseball career and went back into a world of education . I live in Jacksonville in 1999 could have chosen many professions . But I wouldn’t education kids are the driving force for what brought me into this world of public policy . So when I share with them a level . Gotta love of people hard to serve the relationships that I have with the , with the business community relationship that I have with the it ministration with the leadership , I said . Who better to serve and represent the district in this short period cause there’s going to be an election , and in March . Who better to represent a district and someone it comes with these credentials .
Okay , so that we have a lot to get to here where 4 city councilmen Kenneth Freeman a number a call this 5-4 9-2 9-3 7 if you’d like to get out of the conversation and we’re going to get a call in here. Stanley you on the line .
The last Stanley you , are you there.
Okay. We’re trying again .
Standing out you there.
Stanley , are you there.
Okay. We have as .
We have been terribly lost Stanley , but we’ll try to get him back but so moving forward in the conversation. Do you know how many , how many town hall meetings . Have you been holding and I understand that you’ve been holding town hall meetings in the district and you’re you’ve been hearing from constituents that this is a good thing , how many of you had , is it something that’s been there hasn’t been done or more frequently been done , or what it , what are you hearing from your constituents now .
So today they have I’ve had at least 5 town hall meetings. You know the district runs from the trout river all the way down the Collins Road so do my best to try to get to all parts of our district but we’ve had of I I I understand that access is a challenge in the district . And so in the most recent town hall meeting . I’ve been bringing the city departments to the latest in a 2 district in and from public works J so you name it , I had them there so that any questions that the residents of District in would have instead of coming to me and in me coming back the downtown getting answers . And going back out to them , they were able to get those answers , real time right there on the spot .
So we’re going to try again. We have the north side I leave here on the line on first that . Good morning .
Sorry league Good morning.
Good morning to you guys really alter.
We got you very good.
Good morning. I wanted to ask Councilman Freeman , one of the moms booming issue than at their streak has been the septic tank problem and we mayor after mayor administration up administration said that they were going to make it one of their goals to get rid of the offset the tanks in the district . So far to date that has not happened now with you being in the majority party . What can you do to move that project forward so that residents in that district can feel safer about their war .
And thank you for the question. Lee . That’s a very good question . We’ve , we’ve heard over and over again about neglect in District 10 regarding to infrastructure , so how are you . You do you just talked about your your relationships , how you going use relationships to to move from these projects forward .
Yes , certainly that was one of the first things a and coming in that I did was to get an update of where we’re at and septic tanks definitely at the top of list of of many residents in the district , and so it became a top priority of mine and we know that that is a big issue to deal with. To date , where we’re at Biltmore , we are . That project is fully funded it it is it actually scored the highest in it was out of the top 3 , number one . So it means there’s going to be a priority . It is a priority . So they work well . They have a timetable to it the timetable would just be like into a discussion of the budget and getting in and getting early and fighting coming in . When I did was such a limited time leading up to things it was definitely brought out that it was a bit of a points to me but are trying to identify those dollars and find them because it’s not a small number , but that’s one of the issues that digital infrastructures at the public safety and infrastructure to a top priorities . Okay . Thought so .
I , well we , we understand it you’re working with the administration to make sure that this gets done as a priority. Yes , okay . I would think we got , I think we get Stanley back now . Thank you very much . Thank you very much . Leaf at Stanley . I think we had you this time . Are you there .
Yes. Family . Good morning , welcome to first course connect .
Yes , good morning. Thank you for this opportunity here . Ma main concern with Mr. Friedman is your ethics even though someone so like you are want you to represent a community what I’m Tom . As for the governor’s concern when a batch of ethics but calls is a is a person who understand their political system here . My concern is that of democratic area for many years . Elvin asked him American community over there in my concern here . Once again I like to tell me more batch of ethics quote that I do not support you when it comes to your ethics and the reason why they made that decision , why you made that decision to select ever office you get out of it .
Right , thank you stand before you call in tears. That’s going to be a continue continuing between Democrats , Republicans , you know why . What a Republican represent a mostly Democratic district . How do you answer that , you know , how do you answer Mr. Scott’s concerns .
Well , I thank you for the question. I I represent to my time serving prior to this appointment . I was an assistant in City Hall for city council member and I answered phone calls from residents throughout our city and and what I’ve share with residents of district is I don’t ever recall getting a phone call if someone saying that I have Democratic pothole on the interstate that I need you to come and fix over Republican treat us in the right of way . It is blocking kids ability to walk to school and I need public works to come and get it what they tell me is we have a problem . Can you help us and so when I hear that I I I understand it , I understand where he’s coming from . I respectfully disagree . At times but at the end of the day , Republican or Democrat shouldn’t play a role in serving people it’s just start with a love of people my love of God and hard to serve .
Okay so you believe that getting the work done is going to mitigate well should mitigate the partisan politics and representation for the district.
Well yes sir , I see my focus will always be on serving people and when they bring me issues , I will do my best to try to bring solutions.
I think so. We have another caller red you know was on the line from Orange Park ready . No . Good morning and welcome to first course connect .
Good morning. Yes , I’ll be brief so you please me if people really like , was making only knows well an election coming up for the got a I’ll put changed everything . Are you believe that you can do anything to bring about a really significant change for the people , there’s been so many people that gold . Oh God . We’ve got a group Barclays died in Iraq , which isn’t 2 the hardest for climate right you get Pentecostal will claim that the meal . A guard .
