Welcome to say it was on the air. I’m Dan Marsh . Well , we’re talking about a weekend Premier in our city and about an attempt in the Netherlands to fill in some of the blanks on World War II history involving fall and St Louis . But first there is a degree of excitement in St Louis is once again there is serious talk of bringing Major League soccer to walk down , we’ll go behind the headlines on that . A new attempt to lure Major League soccer . St Louis was announced this past week . It would be a privately funded venture with all female majority ownership headed by a member of the Taylor family of Enterprise Rent a Car fame it would include a downtown stadium and partnering with businessman and former pro soccer player Jim Kavanagh this latest effort comes months after regional voters rejected a largely publicly financed effort to lure MLS soccer to town . Joining me in studio is Brian how he’s been involved in the St Louis soccer community for about 50 years now as both a player and a coach another phone as Jack Grogan sports marketing professor at Webster University gentleman . Thanks so much for joining us . Thanks for having me Jack . Let me begin with you how solid a proposal . Do you think this is .
I think it’s it’s exceedingly solid and the really some dare I say it is , is because of the people of the group that are behind it. Anytime the Taylor family is mentioned along with Mr. Kavanaugh , I think it’s an exceedingly great proposal very buttoned up . It’s a very , very solid ownership group would be coming to the table at Major League soccer and I I think that ownership group . The owners of that make up Major League soccer would welcome the Taylor family and Mr. Kavanaugh we have enough men New York minute .
Brian , what’s your take. I agree a lot with what Jack said , with both the Kavanagh family and the Taylor family , you have 2 families with history of being committed to St Louis investing in St Louis . And another thing with this proposal and this ownership group . The presence of such a strong female group and the ownership group itself . I think it really enhances this bid .
The Jacko St Louis has always been considered a hotbed for soccer but somehow it’s son on the professional level here it’s never quite taken hold has.
Well it it’s it’s manifested itself in in a variety of ways there there , what’s not forget that the the effort to bring an MLS team here began but I’m 10 years ago or so and this is a relatively new wing it it’s a league that’s been around for just over a couple of decades so so there certainly has been interest and then barefoot to recruit an MLS team here but but we’ve but we’ve seen through friendlies or international events that had been both.
